Length: 7 Modules, each module approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour
Registration Fee: $350
Credits & Certificate of
Completion Available:
- 5 Continuing Education Units approved by the Florida Association for the Education of Young Children (FLAEYC).
- Downloadable Certificate of Completion: Participants may submit it to their school district or accreditation board to determine credit awarded.
Description
Rebound and Recovery for Teens is developmentally appropriate for upper middle and high school-aged youth. It strengthens adolescents’ cognitive behavioral skills while increasing their ability to cope with unexpected daily stressors and life events.
The curriculum has six one-hour lessons designed to engage youth through activities such as games, discussions, journaling, and skill building exercises. Youth gain a toolkit of emotional regulation strategies, fostering long-term resilience. The curriculum builds upon cognitive behavioral skills introduced in earlier Rebound & Recovery programs for preschool and elementary students, ensuring continuity across developmental stages.

TEEN Module & Lesson Topics
1 - INTRODUCTION TO EMOTIONS, THOUGHTS & ACTIONS (1 HR)
By the end of lesson 1, youth will:
- Understand what emotions are.
- Explore the link between emotions, thoughts, and actions.
- Learn how to identify emotions and gauge their intensity.
2 - GOAL SETTING (1 HR)
By the end of lesson 2, youth will:
- Understand the importance of goals for motivation, purpose, and resilience.
- Set SMART goals for emotional and behavioral improvement to achieve where they want to be in life.
- Learn the calming skill of using visualization and create a vision board.
3 - THOUGHTS & ACTIONS IN DEPTH (1 HR)
By the end of lesson 3, youth will:
- Deepen their understanding of how the brain influences emotions and actions.
- Learn about the limbic system and cerebral cortex of the brain and the development of their brain during adolescence.
- Practice cognitive breathing techniques and start journaling.
4 - NEGATIVE & UNHELPFUL THOUGHTS & REFRAMING (1 HR)
By the end of lesson 4, youth will:
- Recognize the impact of negative thoughts on emotions and actions.
- Identify thinking errors and learn to reframe unhelpful and inaccurate thoughts.
- Practice mindfulness with ninja senses.
5 - HEALTHY LIFESTYLES (1 HR)
By the end of lesson 5, youth will:
- Learn the components of a healthy lifestyle, including healthy relationships and boundary-setting skills.
- Practice yoga as a calming tool.
6 - SUPPORT SYSTEMS & PEER-TO-PEER TRAINING (1 HR)
By the end of lesson 6, youth will:
- Identify the people in their support systems.
- Learn to be a supportive friend to their peers.
- Plan for future challenges and apply learned skills to navigate them.
- Learn the calming tool of using a finger labyrinth or bean mandala.
